UCRF to forge Closer Links with Uganda Musicians Union

Besides the artisans of Katwe, the Ugandan musicians are the largest, most durable, self-sustaining group of creative individuals. Because of this, UCRF is proud to be associated with its membership and happy to forge closer links. This is effort is being spearheaded, among others, by Mr. Joe Tabula, Ms. Anita Sseruwagi Kutta, and Pr. Judith Babirye. The trio are providing a ciritical glue for the UCRF message to find traction in this increadibly creative group. We are confident that the link will being dividents to the patient with cancer in Uganda and also being Pride to the Pearl of Africa - as one of the first countries in Africa to have creative artists provide leadership in this area. We say one of the first, because Yassour Ndour of Senegal, as indeed have other celebrated musicians in West Africa, has been leading in this areas. Time for ours, too, to step forward. Thanks Guys and Ladies.

AT 10:00 AM WITH THE MUSICANS

It was a consultative, educational and recruitment meeting which gave an over view
Of the UCRF and its past achievements, activities and desirable goals since the beginning of UCRF in the Artists.

   AGENDA.
·        Opening prayer was made by Madam Judith Babirye, the director General Secretary of Uganda National Gospel Artist Association.
·        She later chaired the meeting and invited Mr. Kaye Wisdom the chairman of Gospel
Artists to listen and join the cancer fight.

·        Mrs. Anita the General Secretary was later invited to the floor to give a lecture on cancer
·        She explained that cancer is a deadly unseen monster.
·        Many artists were keen to know more. One Miss. Evelyn Muzira openly confessed that she thought cancer was an old women’s disease.

·        Mrs. Anita Sseruwagi went ahead to display a few photos of both children and adults suffering from cancer and by the end of the day several Artists had fully given support and ability to do away with cancer.

      QUESTIONS ASKED

·        Mr. Kaye Wisdom chairperson UNAGAA asked what cancer is.
o   Does it affect men also? Asked by Ms Betty Namaganda
o   How do you detect cancer? Asked Mukyala Victoria
o   Is there any remedy for cancer?
o   Where can one seek help in case they have cancer?

·        Anita encouraged members to visit the cancer patients especially in mulago Hospital so as to get a feel of gravity of the need for every one of us to join the cancer fight.  All these questions were addressed by Ms. Anita Sseruwagi and Madam Judith Babirye at the end of the day everyone was stirred to join the fight.
·        Also in the meeting there was a big challenge of the office because although we are on active force now many artists were uncomfortable with the office location due to the city parking and congestion, However by the end of the day, we resolved that those who would dare coming to the office are very welcome, but we have also realized that there was no one to help them once Mrs. Anita Sseruwagi and Ms. Judith Babirye are in the field.
·        Mrs. Anita kutta together with Ms. Judith Babirye urged some members who had some secretarial and computer knowledge to volunteer.
o   Ms. Victoria Mukyala and Ms. Evelyn Muzira to offer free services so that in case any member went to the office they would at least find someone for assistance,
o   Ms. Evelyn Muzira is the Office Administrator
o   Ms. Mukyala Victoria Volunteered to handle all the necessary Secretarial work.

·        We also agreed to raise some money to create a UCRF Table and furniture to serve our members effectively, On this matter Mrs. Anita Sseruwagi and Ms. Judith Babirye agreed to agreed to meet this cost and also promised that by the end of the next week, between Monday and Friday they would have secured two office tables a filing cabinet to keep the UCRF files and documents and a bench for the visitors

o   Mr. Dangelo Busulwa urged members to get one day and they all go to visit the cancer patients in Mulago as a driving force to put into practice the strong urge to fight cancer

  ARTIST CO-ORDINATOR
o   Mrs. Anita together with Judith Babirye urged members to bring their photos and profiles to UCRF offices as soon as possible, on which matter, Mr. Kaye Wisdom was unanimously elected and accepted as the coordinator in respect to this activity.

         NEXT MEETING
o   The next meeting will be held at the end of April, well knowing that many artists will be busy and even be out of the country. The venue and the specific date will be communicated on phone or by messages after making some consultations.
